2,6-Di-tert-butylphenol (DTBP) is an organic compound, belongs to the class of phenolic compounds and is characterized by the presence of two tert butyl groups attached to the phenolic ring. It is prepared by reacting phenol with isobutylene with an acidic catalyst.

The reaction of 2-tert-butyl phenol with isobutene in the liquid phase is performed with small quantities of catalyst to produce 2,6-DTBP. This reaction is performed in the presence of diluents such as liquid saturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbons at temperatures of 0°C to 80°C
